Known as the Bronze Bombshell, Joyce Bryant was an African-American counterpart to Marilyn Monroe, and one of the first darker-skinned black women to be revered by the general public. She dyed her hair silver with radiator paint because she didn’t want to be upstaged by Josephine Baker. That’s pretty hardcore.
